The COLOMBO Nitrite (NO2) Test is used to determine the level of nitrites (NO2) that are produced by beneficial bacteria in the pond and
filters by converting harmful ammonia into fish waste. Although nitrite is not as toxic as ammonia, it is still
very harmful to fish health. Nitrite itself is split into nitrates, which are almost harmless to pond fish.
Any nitrite present in the water of the reservoir causes serious health problems in fish. Toxic nitrite may accumulate
in ponds where there are not enough useful filter bacteria to handle the general waste from fish in the pond. This situation may
occur at new rates when a new fish is added, when the filter bacteria have been destroyed (for example, during cleaning)
The Colombo Nitrite Test will help you regularly monitor the level of nitrite in the pond so that you can neutralize it if necessary.
The method of application is very simple:
- draw 5 ml of water from a pond into a test tube, then add 5 drops of NO2 reagent
- close the tube with a cap and mix the water with the reagent
- after five minutes, attach a test tube to the scale and determine the level of concentration
The kit includes: 1 test tube and 1 dropper bottle with reagent for 40 tests.
