The small irrigation filter AquaKing Red Label with waterfall flowout is an ideal solution for biological filtration of a reservoir.
Biological filtration using irrigation filters with all its effectiveness is practically not represented in Ukraine. In other countries, especially in Japan, the UK and Israel, such filters are well-deserved. Filters are a construction of several trays mounted on top of each other, a special bio-media is poured into the trays, and a free water channel is provided from below so that it flows freely from the upper tray to the lower one. Water from the reservoir is fed into the uppermost tray and then flows down into the pond under the influence of gravity. The size of the trays and the amount of bio-media in them depends on the size of the pond and the number of fish in it. The advantage of this kind of filters is that the bio-media in them is constantly irrigated with pond water, but at the same time it always remains in the fresh air, thereby simulating the natural filtration of water in mountain streams.
A similar system was invented and patented in Japan at the world famous Momotaro Koi Farm (MTK), and after a short time it became popular in many countries. It should be noted that the main advantages of this type of biological filtration system are its low maintenance costs, a very high degree of biological treatment, oxygen saturation of the water, and mechanical cleaning of water from dirt. Irrigation filters are a great addition to any filtration system for ponds and ponds with fish.
There are very few drawbacks in irrigation filters, but they are still there. The first is the cost, original Japanese filters are very expensive and recently many companies make such systems and offer them much cheaper. The second is the size of such systems, irrigation filtration systems are large and high, so it is unlikely to hide or decorate them. The only thing that can be done is to plant useful plants in trays, which will slightly improve the appearance of the filter and possibly even improve the filtering properties. And the third - such filters are quite loud, the noise level depends on how the water is drained into the reservoir, but compared to other systems they are an order of magnitude more noisy.
